    Map: Bermuda, Paget Parish

Paget Parish is where our only hospital in Bermuda is located, King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (abbreviated KEMH), built in 1920 to replace the old Cottage Hospital (once visited by Mark Twain) on Happy Valley Road, Devonshire Parish, which itself was opened on 11 March 1894.

Anyone listed on this website as having been born since 1920:
       • in Paget Parish, but with no location within Paget Parish; or
       • in Bermuda, but with no location within Bermuda
chances are that they were born at King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEMH).

    1. [S199] THOMPSON (née PIERCE), Maureen Evelyn, Delta, British Columbia, Canada [(E-ADDRESS FOR PRIVATE USE),], Internet: eMail: PIERCE (now THOMPSON), Maureen Evelyn, 24 Dec 2018 (Reliability: 3).
      Hi John

In regard to your email of December 22, the following are answers to your questions:

FYI: PIERCE, Maureen Evelyn is the 5 x cousin once removed of MOTYER, John Mark
Question: Can you tell me how I am related as the 5 x cousins once removed of you?

Question: You have John Jones d. September 16, 1900
Answer:  My mistake, should read John Jones d. September 16, 1800.

Question: Thomas Jones (1753-1796) - my 3rd great grandfather - so the son was born & died 100 or so years before his father lived .
Answer:  As I made an error in the year John Jones died, Thomas Jones (q753-1796) is correct.

John and Ann had 6 children:
John Jones d, 19 Feb 1801 and married Edith "Edy" Tynes
Thomas Jones (1753-1796) who married Gershoma Newman
William - Daniel - Ann - George, all born in Paget

Question:  Are you able to provide me with more details on William, Daniel, Ann & George, such as full given names, and full dates of their births & deaths?  I can then add them to the database as well.  I already have individuals in my tree, who may already be the some of the above.

Answer:  The following is the answer to the 6 children and John and Ann Jones.  They are:

John Jones, d. February 19, 1801, Paget, Bermuda
      William Jones (no information)
Thomas Jones b. 1753 Paget d. Aft. 1796 ???Inwood, Paget, Bermuda
Daniel Jones b.1756 Paget Bermuda d. Bef. October 27, 1796, father's will, Paget, Bermuda
Ann Jones b.1756 Paget, Bermuda d. September 09, 1761 Paget, Bermuda
George Jones b. 1761 Paget, Bermuda d. Bef. October 27, 1796, father's will, Paget, Bermuda

Looking to find out what the last name of Ann would be a fellow member Ancestry gave me the following information:

Clara Hollis Hallet suggests that Thomas' (who married Gershoma) father was:
      1.  John Jones and Ann nee: Topping, married 1746 ,May 11, Hamilton Parish, son: Thomas Bapt. 1753 Sept. 2 in Paget

I asked Ellen Hollis of the Bermuda National Library and what she found for me was:
      EARLY BERMUDA RECORDS 1619-1826
      HOLIDAY & FEVERYEAR REGISTERS
Groom & Bride Marriages (page 143)

Topping     Ann          John          Jones          Hm          1746     May 11

This is what I have to possibly being the Annn that John married.  Do you have any other information?

With regard to the Will of John Jones (which I have) I was in communication with the Ancestry member who supplied me with the following information:

I don't have a will for John who died 16 Sep 1800 but the information I have is that the will is in:
      Wills Book 13, p.29

I checked with Ellen Hollis of the Bermuda National Library. She supplied me with the following:

Thank you for your interest in the Bermuda Archives.
I have found the will of John Jones, will probate date 8 April 1807. This John Jones was married to an Ann Jones and had three sons; John Jones (Jr.), Thomas Jones, and William Jones. I would assume this is the John Jones that passed 16th September 1800.

      Kind regards,
      Ariana Smith

Question:  I would be interested to know if you have any information on William Jones, son of John Jones who died 16 September 1800 and what properties John Jones may have had in Paget, as William was one of the Executors.  By chance did they once own The Cherries in Paget, Bermuda? I am unable to find out what properties John Jones owned in Paget, Bermuda.  Do you have any information on John Jones (Jr) as to when he might have been born?

The above is what information I have on at the family of John Jones who died 16 September 1800 in burial, Paget, Bermuda.

Look forward to hearing from you.
      Merry Christmas.

      Hello,

I just sent a message to you and I am not sure if you received the message as it said "sorry." when I sent it.

My name is Maureen (Pierce) Thompson and I am hoping you can help me. I noticed in your MOTYER & BENJAMIN Family Tree Genealogy you had a person by the name of John Jones who died 19 February 1801 and married Edith "Edy" Tynes.

I am in search of any information you have on the father of John Jones. who married Edith Tynes. I am related to John Jones through his brother Thomas Jones (1753-1796) who married Gershoma Newman, who was born aft. 1773.

The information I have is the Descendants of John Jones, who married Ann bef. 1753 She died Aft. 1796 in Paget.

John and Ann had 6 children:
John Jones d, 19 Feb 1801 and married Edith "Edy" Tynes
Thomas Jones (1753-1796) who married Gershoma Newman
William - Daniel - Ann - George, all born in Paget

      My Jones Family Ancestry is:
      John Jones d. September 16, 1900
Thomas Jones (1753-1796) - my 3rd great grandfather
      George Jones (1796-1873)
George Albert Jones (1849-1921) he owned The Cherries South Shore Road Paget
Harley Leonard Jones (1883-1953) he owned Cherry Cottage, Berry Hill Road Paget
Hattie Pearl Jones (1913-1988) my mom owned Cherry Cottage Berry Hill Road Paget
Maureen Evelyn (Pierce) Thompson - me.

All I know on the Jones family is that the Jones family from Wales settled in the Paget Tribe in Bermuda during the 1760's. I do not have the first names of the Jones family who immigrated from Wales (I expect they went to England and then Bermuda). This is where I am at standstill for I have no further information of John Jones, died September 16, 1800 and buried in Paget. I do no know where he was buried in Paget or what properties he owned in Bermuda as noted in his Will that I have and mentioned his wife Ann and sons John, Thomas and William as Executors.

Are you able to help me with any information you may have on the father of John Jones who died 19 February 1801. I would appreciate it.

      Thank you.
      Merry Christmas.

      Hi John,

This is a Postscript to my email I sent this morning.

I have been a member of My Heritage.com and came across a Profile I printed of John Jones, Died: Sep 16, 1800.  At the moment I need to renew my subscription to My Heritage and therefore am unable to confirm or check information.

What I have in the Events of John's Life is:

      1747     Marriage to Ann Jones
                Moore Register, Bermuda
                Nov 21, 1747

I will need to check to see if I have a record of the above. Do you have any information on the above?

      Thanks.

      Maureen (Pierce) Thompson
