Southampton is the largest city on the south coast of England, in the county of Hampshire, England, and is a major port, roughly in the centre of the coast. The city represents the core of the Greater Southampton region. It's noted for being the home of the RMS Titanic, the Spitfire, and more recently a number of the largest cruise liners in the world. Southampton's history is very long and very complicated. Archeological finds show that Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age settlements once existed within the area that is now the modern City of Southampton. Archeology also shows that the Romans established a settlement shortly after their invasion of Britain in AD 43, but abandoned it circa 410.

Sri Lanka, officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, known as Ceylon before 1972 and as Taprobane in ancient times) is an island country in South Asia, located about 31 kilometres (19.3 mi) off the southern coast of India.

After over two thousand years of rule by local kingdoms, parts of Sri Lanka were colonized by Portugal and the Netherlands beginning in the 16th century, before the control of the entire country was ceded to the British Empire in 1815. During World War II, Sri Lanka served as an important base for Allied forces in the fight against the Japanese Empire. A nationalist political movement arose in the country in the early 20th century with the aim of obtaining political independence, which was eventually granted by the British after peaceful negotiations in 1948.
