- 1881 Census William's first wife Rebecca had died, and so had Emma, and he had married a younger woman called Mary aged 36 (a bit quickly some might say!) and perhaps family upheaval is one of the reasons why Walter had gone to stay with his grandfather Edward Dickins and 2 unmarried aunts Elizabeth and Jane back in Hanging Houghton . Edward Frank had married Emily Clara Edgeworth Cooke in 1878 and is living in Horsemarket, Northampton. William and his second wife Mary are living in Mare Fair, Northampton, with daughter Jessie, Butcher , William Harry, clerk, George Arthur, aged 16, and Alice Jane, 14.
